Re:Generations Project Appeal
…for a building and environment received from previous generations to hand on to future generations to serve the Parish sustainably.
Bathampton’s parish church of St Nicholas has embarked on an ambitious journey to develop and enhance a major community heritage asset: the church building.
As a result of great generosity by members of the church, the wider parish, and in particular the Medlock Trust, we are pleased to report that the first phase of the Re:Generations Project has now been successfully installed and is operational. This has delivered the essential infrastructure needed to secure the long-term, sustainable use of St Nicholas’ Church as both a place of worship and a community heritage asset.
Phase 1 achievements include:
- Faculty approval granted, with works carried out under the supervision of the church architect and with appropriate archaeological oversight.
- Completion of major groundworks in the churchyard, including preparation for the new power supply, undertaken to a high standard and with careful reinstatement.
- Installation of a new three-phase electricity supply to the site, providing the capacity required for future heating and lighting improvements.
- Detailed archaeological recording completed, resulting in a comprehensive illustrated report.
- A combination of chandelier-style Halo and linear Aspect far-infrared heaters have been purchased from Herschel Infrared and installed by Enlightened in the nave, side aisles and tower areas of the church building.
- We have received a contribution towards the cost of purchased and installation as a Green Business Grant from the Low Carbon Business Support unit of the West of England Combined Mayoral Authority.
Phase 1 marks a significant milestone for the Re:Generations Project. It lays firm foundations for the next phases, which will focus on internal works to improve comfort, flexibility and sustainability, ensuring that St Nicholas Church can continue to serve both the parish and the wider community for generations to come.
Fundraising
As at 1st January 2026, we have raised just over £100,000 towards our target of £250,000.
At a cost of £60,000 we have installed infrared heating. This system is energy-efficient, economical and, at the click of a switch, provides instant heating for the congregation.
We will now be engaging with consultations on the plans for the next phases of the project, which include possible updating the lighting, IT and sound systems, redecoration as required, removal of the pews and installation of chairs, improved disabled access, enlargement of the disabled cloakroom, installation of glass doors at the entrance of the church, modification and redecoration of meeting rooms, and the creation of a new crèche.
